GPG DELIVERS GREEN DLTC IN KAGISO

Department of Infrastructure Development 2019/04/10 - 22:00

The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) has delivered Kagiso Drivers License Testing Centre (DLTC), a cutting edge green technology facility to the community of the Krugersdorp in Mogale City Municipality.Located in the heart of Kagiso township,. This DLTC was officially handed over to the community earlier this morning by the MEC for Infrastructure Development (DID), Jacob Mamabolo. and the MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi..

"This R19 million facility is equipped with the cutting edge green technology that makes it simultaneously energy efficient and adaptable to changes in the climate", said MEC Mamabolo during the official handover of the DLTC to the Department of Roads and Transport.

"Kagiso DLTC which was designed and delivered by DID, is a smart building which has been designed to serve its users without sole dependency on the electricity grid. What we are giving the people of Kagiso is a building that fitted with glazing and insulation so that it preserves energy when it is cold and dual solar/electric geyser for enhanced energy saving," added Mamabolo.

The Kagiso DLTC is one of the range of projects that GPG has released to communities since the Fifth Administration commenced in 2014. Other infrastructure investments  recently handed over to Gauteng communities include; schools, clinics, community centres and libraries. This weekend another state-of-the-art facility, the KwaSokhulumi Early Childhood Development will be handed over to the Bronkhorstspruit community in the City of Tshwane.

"The number and quality of projects that we are delivering are a true testament to the behind the scenes work that we as DID undertook to  optimize, streamline and refine our service delivery model. It is not like these projects were stored away and are now being given to communities because we are in election season," Mamabolo added.

Speaking after inspecting the facility, MEC Vadi applauded the workmanship and the aesthetics of the building which, he said was a huge investment in Kagiso. "Facilities such as these were formerly reserved for suburbs. We have deliberately decided, as the government that, these services should be in our communities, many of whom had to travel distances to access these services," Vadi said.

The facility is intended to cater for approximately 800 patrons per day both from the Kagiso Township and surrounding areas and will alleviate the congestion at the Drivers' License Testing Centre at Mogale City. It will cater for both Code 8 and 10 licensing.
